Course Requirement::
The study period is two years; a two-year extension is allowed. 32 credits are required before beginning thesis composition.
All courses are elective; students are required to take a minimum of one course and no more than 15 credits each semester. In addition to the courses offered in the Program, all courses opened by the instructors under the Department in the College of International Affairs are accepted. Six relevant credits provided by other departments or institutes are also allowed.
Graduate students are allowed to take courses provided by other departments, programs, institutes, or schools with the permission from both sides. A minimum of one course from different programs each semester is allowed; a maximum of 12 credits are accepted. An application form is required for those who plan to take courses from other institutes.
Graduate students are requested to submit the Thesis Advisor Application Form by the midterm examination week in the second semester of the first year. The application for research presentation can also be processed after the advisor’s approval. Research questions or hypotheses, outline, methodology, references, structure, completed sections, and relevant details shall be presented in the midterm examination week of each semester.
Upon successful completion of the course, students can apply for an oral defense. The thesis can be written in Mandarin, Japanese, English or any other language approved by the advisor. The master’s degree in the field of law, business, or sociology will be conferred depending on the research field after thesis examination.
Regarding foreign language requirement, students must pass an English proficiency test and the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test with the N2 level. Taking four credits in Japanese is also available as a replacement for the Japanese test; for more details upon an English proficiency test, please refer to school regulations.
