日本語学習人口が日本への留学に与える効果

本研究的論題為「日語學習人口對赴日留學的影響」。人員的國際移動,與國際貿易一樣,經常以重力模型來加以說明。本文聚焦於人員國際移動中的留學現象。重力模型嘗試以母國與目的國的GDP以及兩國之間的距離來解釋留學的決定因素。在針對留學的重力模型中,除了這些因素外,通常也會加入共同語言虛擬變數(dummy variable)。然而,由於日本並沒有與其擁有共同語言的國家,因此無法透過共同語言虛擬變數來控制與留學相關的溝通成本。 本研究希望將「溝通成本」引入作為分析赴日留學的一項因素。因此,本文以海外的日語學習人口數與日語教師人數作為溝通成本的代理變數進行分析。本文的主要研究目的有以下兩點:第一,分析海外日語學習人口的增加對赴日留學生人數之影響;第二,推估海外日語教師人數的增加將使赴日留學生人數增加的幅度。 本研究採用的是小國面板資料,並運用留學的重力模型架構進行分析。在對赴日留學生人數的因素分析中,除了考量各國的日語學習人口或日語教師人數之外,也納入經濟規模、距離、前殖民地虛擬變數、簽證政策、開放天空協定等因素。本文的分析資料涵蓋2006年、2009年、2012年、2015年及2018年等五個年度,共77個國家的面板資料。 本文的主要研究結果指出,在控制其他因素的情況下,一國的日語學習人口與日語教師人數,皆為促進赴日留學的重要因素。
