Yesterday, Georgetown held the Living Heritage Treasures Awards ceremony, which had been suspended for two years due to the Covid pandemic. This year, the tradition was revived, and many artists attended the event. The Penang Heritage Trust (PHT) not only protects the local ancient buildings but also encompasses various forms of intangible living heritage. However, traditional craftsmanship in the area has been gradually declining due to the aging of artists and a lack of successors willing to carry on the skills. Preserving traditional craftsmanship and ensuring its continuation in this generation are major challenges faced by Georgetown. Balancing tradition and innovation, which have different perspectives across generations, remains an ongoing goal for these artists, scholars, and the PHT.
This week, Professor Chou visited us in Penang, showing concern for our lives here and providing valuable advice regarding our internship within the organization. In the following two weeks, we will continue our efforts to contribute further to the organization and cultural heritage preservation.
