大家好我們是BERSIH組，這個禮拜我們跟著組織來到了檳城監選州議會議員補選。
在補選前一晚我們參加了國民陣線和希望聯盟的造勢晚會，現場人聲鼎沸，群眾激情亢奮地為自己支持的政黨加油。隔天我們去了投票所監票。在從停車走到投票所的路上，我們看到了激動的選民在距離投票所不到100公尺的地方為自己所支持的政黨拉票，我們對這樣的場景感到新奇，而BERSIH也在努力提倡禁止這種行為的法案，以減少選舉不公平的情況發生。而令我們感到新奇的不止這些，在投票所外有一個告示牌，上面寫著他們將在投完票的民眾食指上塗上一種半永久式的塗料，以標示該選民已經投過票了。BERSIH也致力於推廣廢棄這種方法改用實名制登記的方式，以確保一人一票的公平性。
在本次補選中，我們親身見識了馬來西亞選舉過程中的種種現象，從造勢晚會的熱鬧場面到投票所外的激動場景，都讓我們感受到了選民的熱情與積極性。同時，我們也見證了選舉過程中存在的一些問題，如近距離拉票和投票後的食指塗料標示。這些問題反映了選舉制度中仍需改進的地方。BERSIH組織致力於推動相關法案，禁止近距離拉票行為，並倡導使用實名制登記來取代傳統的投票標示方法，以提升選舉的公平性和透明度。通過這次監選經歷，我們更加堅信，只有不斷完善選舉制度，才能實現真正的民主選舉。
Hello everyone, we are the BERSIH team. This week, we followed the organization to Penang to monitor the by-election for the state legislative assembly.
The night before the by-election, we attended a rally held by the BN-PH coalition. The atmosphere was electric, with the crowd enthusiastically cheering for their supported party. The next day, we went to the polling station to monitor the voting. On the way from the parking lot to the polling station, we saw excited voters campaigning for their supported party within 100 meters of the polling station. We found this scene intriguing, and BERSIH is working hard to advocate for legislation to ban such activities to reduce election unfairness. Another thing that caught our attention was a sign outside the polling station stating that voters would have a semi-permanent ink applied to their index finger after voting to indicate that they had already voted. BERSIH is also committed to promoting the abandonment of this method in favor of using a real-name registration system to ensure the fairness of one person, one vote.
During this by-election, we witnessed various phenomena in Malaysia's election process firsthand. From the lively rally to the enthusiastic scenes outside the polling station, we felt the passion and engagement of the voters. At the same time, we also observed some issues in the election process, such as close-range campaigning and the ink marking on voters' fingers after voting. These issues highlight areas where the election system still needs improvement. The BERSIH organization is dedicated to pushing for relevant legislation to ban close-range campaigning and advocating for the use of a real-name registration system to replace traditional voting marking methods to enhance the fairness and transparency of elections. Through this monitoring experience, we are more convinced that only by continuously improving the election system can true democratic elections be achieved.
